ABOUT PHYLLIS BOURDEAUX
Phyllis Boudreaux is visual artist whose primary subject is the human condition. She creates her expressionistic forms utilizing a diverse array of mediums and processes through painting, printmaking and installation. Boudreaux earned a BFA in photography from Rhode Island School of Design, where she studied with Aaron Siskind and Harry Callahan, and an MFA from William Paterson University, where she was mentored by master printmaker Zhiyuan Cong. She has exhibited nationally and her work has been published by the Smithsonian Institution Press. Her photographs of Friedel Dzubas, at work, were featured in a Dzubas exhibition at the Tower 49 Gallery, New York, in 2015 and appeared in Patricia L Lewey’s monograph “Friedel Dzubas”, published by Skira Editors in 2019. Boudreaux’s extensive documentary photograph’s of Dzubas were the focal point of the book, also by Skira and Patricia Lewey, “Friedel Dzubas’s Last Judgement” 2024. Her mixed medium mono print paintings are featured in the Warner Bros. Production: “Blind Spot”, currently streaming on Netflix, 2025.
ARTIST STATEMENT
It is the energy, the power, the mere inspiration that moves the artist that fascinates me. It is that power that forces the spiritual to become physical and inspires the mind, the eye and the hand to create. That moment of breath that the artist takes, which all artist share, is the ability to transform imagination into physical reality. Phyllis Boudreaux is a visual artist whose primary subject revolves around transition from the physical to the metaphysical. She has drawn her influences from both painting and printmaking and her roots in photography, to evolve as a mixed medium artist. The attraction to studying Mono Printing as Painting allows her to find new ways of applying the many techniques she has acquired.
